NOTCHING POST & TREAD | INSTALLING TO KNEE WALL | USING NEWEL ATTACHING KIT |
Set post in 1-7/8" from edge. Mark newel placement on tread, notch tread 1-1/2" deep, transfer markings to newel. Notch newel 50% of thickness. Apply adhesive. Pre-drill hole for 3/8" wood plug and finish with smaller pilot hole for 3" wood screw or lag bolts. Attach newel. |
Measure, cut and install cap over rough framing. Pre-drill newels with 3/8" hole for wood plug and finish with smaller pilot hole for 4-1/2" wood screw. Apply adhesive and screw into place. |
Use the j-anchor newel attaching kit to install newels directly into steps or on landings. Follow directions on box. An alternate method for landings is to remove the sub floor and attach the newel directly into the floor joist. |
